Mitch Johnson makes sure Spurs’ first win of season didn’t actually feel like it
While San Antonio Spurs fans can rest easy knowing their team won’t go 0-82, head coach Mitch Johnson didn’t take the defending Western Conference champion’s first victory of 2026-27 lightly. San Antonio Spurs won 122-106 against the Dallas Mavericks, marking their first victory of 2026-27. Head coach Mitch Johnson stated that the team's floor was too low and that they need to raise it. This comes after two losses to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, which are expected to finish near the top of the Western Conference respectively. Despite these victories, expectations have shifted for the young Spurs, who return every key player from an NBA Finals appearance. Despite this, De'Aaron Fox and Johnson both acknowledged the team’s poor performance. The Spurs are expected only to face teams expected to be near the final standings until Thanksgiving.
