After San Antonio storm, SBA loans arrive, but residents say 'nobody has reached out'

"They're gonna try and help us, even though we have to pay it back." After an Aug. 28 storm in San Antonio, residents are finding support from the Small Business Administration (SBA) after they receive low-interest federal disaster loans. The loans are offered to businesses and homeowners, but serious damage remains in some areas such as the West Side and Historic Five Points. Many residents are frustrated with the lack of assistance given due to the scale of the damage and type of assistance offered. The SBA's public affairs specialist, Gabriel Perales, said applicants are offered rates below what traditional lenders typically charge. Those seeking the federal loans have until Nov. 9 to apply. Some city-level repair assistance is also available, but contractors are paid directly rather than residents.
