Irving mayor gives key to the city to actor Kevin Costner

IRVING, Texas — The City of Irving gave “Yellowstone” actor Kevin Costner a key to the city on Tuesday.
The presentation comes as Costner is promoting his latest film, “Horizon: An American Saga,” a four-part film series set in the American West during the Civil War. The first two movies, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, will be released on June 28 and Aug. 16, 2024.
According to a video from the city, the key was given to Costner because of “his celebration of the American West” in his career and most recent films.
The key was given to Costner on Tuesday by Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer in front of the Mustangs of Las Colinas, a sculpture installation by Robert Glen that “was created to capture the free spirit embodied in the heritage of Texas,” according to the City of Irving’s website.
Costner joked with the crowd by asking what he could do with the key. He followed up with whether he could buy the larger-than-life-sized horse statues, since he had the key.
“I do appreciate it. I’m not too cool for school,” Costner said to a crowd gathered at Williams Square Plaza. “The only gesture I can make back, truly, is that in my own profession that I choose to make a movie that will maybe touch you.”
Stopfer said he talked with Costner about bringing one of his films to Irving and told the actor to “remember Irving.”
