A busy San Antonio roadway will shut down until 2027. Here's why
The 24/7 phased full road closure will effect traffic with detours for months. A major water main replacement project in San Antonio, East Hildebrand Avenue, is set to shut down an entire section of road for several months until 2027. The San Antonio Public Works and Capital Delivery social media pages shared that a section of Hildebr Ave. will be closed beginning Oct. 26, 2026. The project will replace 4,600 feet of aging water mains and is expected to be completed in Spring 2027, costing $11.3 million. Officials warned that detours and lane closures may occur at times due to temporarily shutting off water service to connect new lines to the existing system.
