USA Discovers a Fresh Travel Story Along San Antonios Living Waterways
Explore San Antonios historic irrigation canals and discover how shared water connects farming, community life and heritage. The USA is home to a new travel experience on the living waterways of San Antonio, where historical canals transport water to fields and settlements. In Mission San Juan, visitors can walk along an acequia and watch irrigation supporting the food initiative in the community. In New Mexico, the acequias provide insight into how local authorities distribute water and preserve the historical system. In Valencia, the Huerta of Valencia, whose landscape is formed by canals, farms, markets, and traditions, all three sites offer a chance for travelers to explore beyond the landscape. The National Park Service describes a demonstration farm where visitors can see historic growing methods and water flowing through irrigation channels. The San Antonio Food Bank uses modern systems to grow food for the community, giving the site a present-day purpose. The nearby Acequia Trail offers another way to understand the landscape, connecting the city’s five missions.
