Million gallon sulfuric acid leak affecting Houston Ship Channel

Approximately one million gallons of sulfuric acid was leaked early Monday morning. A sulfuric acid leak at the BWC Terminals facility in Channelview, Texas, has affected the Houston Ship Channel. The leak occurred around 1:40 a.m. Saturday and ruptured a six-inch pipeline. Two workers from a nearby business were hospitalized with respiratory issues, but are expected to recover. The Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo assured that there is no immediate danger as no evacuations were necessary and air and water quality are being monitored. Most of the sulfuricacid was contained, but an unknown amount entered the ship channel.
