San Antonio to Install Three New Safe Haven Baby Boxes, Promising New Lifeline for Abandoned Infants
After years of advocacy, Pamela Allen announced that San Antonio will install three Safe Haven Baby Boxes at local fire stations. San Antonio, Texas, has announced plans to install three Safe Haven Baby Boxes at local fire stations in an effort to reduce infant abandonment. The boxes, which are triggered by alarms when a baby is placed inside, aim to provide an alternative to leaving a newborn in a public place or harmful environment. The move comes amid community challenges, including a high-profile child pornography case and the cancellation of the annual Dia de los Muertos event due to ICE concerns. The Safe Haven Babies are designed to provide a secure, anonymous drop‑off solution for newborns and provide a lifeline to those who may otherwise feel powerless or desperate. The installation ceremony will take place on October 27 at Fire Station No. 7.
