The study, led by Edward R. Kost, MD, found that while several types of cancer are declining across the country, endometrian cancer is on the rise, particularly in South Texas. The research team used population-based data from 42,571 Texas women aged 20 to 79 diagnosed with endometrioid cancer between 2000 and 2019 using the National cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program. The most common treatment for endometria cancer is hysteretomy, the surgical removal of the uterus. Among women under age 50, Hispanic women had the most incidence of the cancer, with the statewide hystère-correcting incidence rate at 12.4 per 100,000 among Hispanic women, compared to 8.9 among non-Hispanic white women and 5.6 among non non-Asian Black women. The researchers also found that non- Hispanic Black women had higher rates of non-endometrioids tumors and poorer five-year relative survival. The primary goal is to understand why these rates are rising and which populations are most affected.
