Forty ice carvers from China just landed in Hill Country to sculpt Rudolph from scratch. The attraction opens next month. The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa has welcomed 40 master ice artisans from Harbin, China, to San Antonio for a month of hand-carving 7,000 blocks of ice into scenes from the 1964 television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The attraction, set to run from 2025-2026, will feature life-sized sculptures and use over two million pounds of ice across 11 immersive scenes. The artisans typically spend nearly 40 days sculpting thousands of ice blocks into displays, using specialized carving tools and 300-page design books. The event was welcomed by the resort on Oct. 22 with a performance by the USA Soaring Phoenix and Lion Dance Association and students from the International School of San Antonio singing Jingle Bells in Mandarin Chinese. Tickets for the event must be purchased online in advance.
