San Antonio ramen shop clears the air on alleged fake accounts

San Antonio ramen shop Ito Ramen confirms it is open after fake accounts impersonated the business. San Antonio's popular ramen shop, Ito Ramen, is clearing up confusion over several online accounts that have appeared for the business. The owner, Yi Kei "Kay" Wong, posted on the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group stating that the restaurant is still open for business. These accounts were found on Instagram, but it is unclear who or what is behind them. An unofficial Facebook page for the restaurant also appeared in May 2018, a year after the restaurant launched its own official page on the platform. This comes after Wong filed a lawsuit against a former employee, Chieh "Joy" Chien, accusing them of stealing equipment and recipes and using restaurant resources to sell food out of the restaurant. Wong is seeking more than $1,000,000 in damages.

One of San Antonio's popular ramen shops is clearing up confusion over various online accounts that have appeared for the business.

On Tuesday, Match 26, Ito Ramen posted in the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group, confirming that the restaurant is indeed open for business after owner Yi Kei "Kay" Wong learned of several online accounts that were associating themselves with her ramen shop.

"Recently, a fake facebook account used our name [and] posted we are closed," Wong wrote. "We like to take this chance to tell our valued customers we OPEN 7 days a week..."

After a quick search, we were able to find several apparently fake Ito Ramen accounts on Instagram, but it is unclear who or what is behind their creation. An unofficial account for the restaurant also appears to have been auto-generated by Facebook in May 2018, a year after Ito Ramen launched its own official page on the platform.

"Customers cannot check in with my page, but instead they've checked in with the fake one," Wong told MySA in a phone conversation, referring to the unofficial Facebook page.

Earlier this month, MySA reported on Ito Ramen after we became aware of a lawsuit filed by the business against a former employee, accusing them of stealing equipment and recipes. In the complaint, Wong claims that she discovered the employee, Chieh "Joy" Chien, was using restaurant resources to sell food out the "the back of the restaurant," according to documents obtained by MySA.

Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that multiple individuals told Wong that Chien was allegedly spreading rumors that Ito Ramen was closed and operating as a new business, among other supposed misinformation. Wong is seeking more than $1,000,000, according to the suit.
