After 90 years as the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind and Vision Impaired, the nonprofit has a new name: Vibrant Works.

The rebranding reflects the core of who they are in different ways, said Cynthia Watson, president and CEO, in a summer 2023 letter to supporters, customers and clients. The new logo, designed by brand agency Parallel, combines the “V” and “W” in an eternal loop.

Any reference to San Antonio is gone because the group offers services beyond San Antonio and has stores on military bases in three states.

The logo’s font — Atkinson Hyperlegible — is more readable for people with low vision. The emblem’s bright colors represent the culture and energy of the company’s clients and workforce.

“We’re full of life and momentum,” Watson said. “And we want the world to see us this way.”

She said the new name will invite the “public to see the capabilities of people with vision loss.”

In 2021, Watson became the first woman and blind CEO of the $120 million manufacturing plant. She previously led the Seattle Lighthouse, which employs those who are blind and concentrates on service and manufacturing operations.

San Antonio’s nonprofit has helped people with vision loss since 1933. It started as a small sewing plant on San Antonio’s South Side. Vibrant Works is one of the nation’s largest employers of residents with vision loss.
