SAN ANTONIO — With many parts of the San Antonio and the Hill Country being in the path of totality for Monday's solar eclipse, many parents are wondering what will happen if their student misses school to view the historic event.

Of course, the question does not apply for families who live in some school districts in the Hill Country that have decided to make April 8 a student and staff holiday, including Kerrville ISD, Comfort ISD and others. You can see that full list here.

But, for most of the school districts in the San Antonio metro area, Monday is a normal school day. KENS 5 asked each of San Antonio's largest school districts what the policy is on absences due to the eclipse.

North East ISD responded that it will be considered like any other day. District officials released this statement:

"Parents are always welcome to make their own decisions for what they think is best for their children and this includes days that they are absent. Since NEISD is in session, absences on this day will be handled like any other. "

Northside ISD also said it will be considered like other days, releasing this statement:

"April 8 is a regular school day for NISD and absences on that day will be treated the same as any other. "

San Antonio ISD, likewise, said the school day will be operated as normal, but with educational opportunities related to the celestrial event.

"An absence would be handled as any other day a student is not in attendance. Many of our schools are planning engaging activities around the eclipse, and we believe students may want to participate in these activities with their classmates."
