After 10 years, beloved Asian fusion restaurant Hot Joy to leave Southtown
There's no date set, but this summer the beloved San Antonio spot will move from 1014 S. Alamo St. to 1101 Broadway. After ten years of service at Hot Joy in Southtown, San Antonio's Asian fusion restaurant, Hot Joy, is set to leave Southtown and move to a new location later this summer at 1101 Broadway. The restaurant will be leaving its home at 1014 S. Alamo St. and will be moving to the Broadway building, which is also home to Pumpers and NOLA Brunch & Beignets. The announcement was shared on social media with some of the most memorable moments from the past decade, which included a crab caramel wing eating contest, a cease-and-desist order, live music, malfunctioning air conditioning, and over 120,000 orders of spam fried rice. Starting on June 18, the restaurant will serve old favorites like pork belly tacos, tater tot chaat, hot fried chicken and tofu steam buns.

Ten "chaotic, sometimes crazy-good, sometimes crazy-bad, wild, loud, over-the-top, high-voltage years" have passed since Hot Joy opened up in its Southtown digs, and over 280,000 pounds of chicken wings later, the restaurant is making a big move.
Hot Joy said Tuesday on social media that it will be saying farewell to its home at 1014 S. Alamo St. and moving to a new spot later this summer at 1101 Broadway. The Broadway building is also home to Pumpers and NOLA Brunch & Beignets, the latter of which moved to the building just weeks ago.
"We are leaving Southtown, but have no intentions of stopping the party," Hot Joy wrote. "As much as we'll miss our ramshackle little Southtown spot...we are thrilled to be moving into our new location."
In the announcement, the beloved Asian fusion eatery shared some of the most memorable moments from the past decade, which included a crab caramel wing eating contest, a cease-and-desist order, live music, malfunctioning air conditioning, and over 120,000 orders of spam fried rice.
The restaurant will be moving in late summer, but hasn't set an exact date yet, it told the Express-News.
Until then, Hot Joy will be serving up old favorites, it said in the social media post. Starting June 18, dishes like pork belly tacos, tater tot chaat, hot fried chicken and tofu steam buns will be back on the menu.
"So now, San Antonio friends, with an open heart and empty stomach, I say unto you in the words of my uncle: "HASTA LA VISTA SOUTHTOWN," Hot Joy wrote.
