Breaking down the options for data center rules in San Antonio

City Council will choose between four options for new data center land use rules after the Zoning Commission made its recommendation Tuesday. The City of San Antonio’s Zoning Commission has recommended a plan for regulating data centers in the city. The first option involves allowing data centers to be built by-right, once they meet a set of pre-determined city standards, rather than on a case-by-case basis. The second option would require each data center project to plead its own case before City Council. The third option involves giving developers a list of citywide standards that developers can meet before they receive approval from City Council on a Case-by. The Zoning commission's proposal would allow by-left development in industrial areas and specific use authorization in business park, light industrial and general commercial zones. The final decision on regulations will be made by San Antonio City Council next week.
