Five council members offer alternative to mayor's $442 million bond plan
Five San Antonio City Council members have proposed a competing plan for the city's 2027 bond program, with disagreements over how funding should be divided among council districts and whether to include infrastructure improvements around the planned downtown Spurs arena. Five San Antonio City Council members have proposed a plan for dividing $442 million in the city's 2027 bond program, competing with Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones' proposal of $124 million for citywide projects and $35 million for infrastructure in the planned downtown sports and entertainment district. The remaining $318 million would be divided among the city’s 10 council districts using an existing formula based on roadway mileage and street conditions. Jones' approach would instead direct more bond funding towards historically underserved districts. The council members believe their proposal would allow each district to allocate funding across parks, community facilities, and street infrastructure to address unique, neighborhood-level needs.
